We are a self-help, non-profit group of 400+ people who own property in Frankston & Seaford. We have no vested interests other than the fact that we love Frankston-Seaford and want what is best for the area. For us, these are the two best and most affordable beachside suburbs in metropolitan Australia. As owner occupiers or investors, we have worked hard to buy our homes and we are intent on improving the status and prestige of our neighborhood. We are proud to belong here.
Currently, we are Australia's cheapest beachside suburb with formal marina-approval in place and an internationally respected university branch campus that attracts post graduate researchers and students from all over the world. We have it all: a major hospital, trains, shops galore and plenty of infrastructure. Several property gurus have nominated Frankston-Seaford as a sustainable, low-cost hotspot with great long term prospects. And with a median price 30% below Melbourne's median, Frankston & Seaford are well poised for capital gain in the next few years. Could Frankston become the next Manly (Sydney) or Hillaries (Perth)? We think so! And we are voting with our wallets and living the dream as we wait for price parity to someday happen.
And its not just our lovely beaches and Marina prospects that brings people here. Try googling "Frankston+Monash" in most reputable medical journals and you will see that we are making our mark in the world of research and first class medical care, particularly in the area of palliative medicine. Today, Frankston is smarter than it has ever been. The future for Frankston and Seaford hasn't been this promising since Gregory Peck came here with Ava Gardner to film On the Beach back in 1959.
Frankston has been nominated as a hotspot by a number of property commentators including Terry Ryder, Margaret Lomas and TAFE's "property professor" Peter Koulizos. It has been featured in Australian Property Investor magazine as well as in a supplement of Australian Doctor magazine.
As local owners, we are proud of what is happening to our long established suburb. You won't recognize Frankston in 5 years time. Many tired old houses will be replaced with modern ones. There are a number of independent forums where you can meet people like us, ordinary owners who are not salesmen out to sell or buy from you. One such site is located at http://www.somersoft.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31663 Take the time to read all the threads from owners.
Our aims:
1. We intend to raise awareness of what we consider to be the most underrated, beachside area in Australia. The recent approval of the proposed Marina and the relocation of the St Kilda Football club are positive developments that will make Frankston and Seaford household names in Australia and overseas. We want the Marina to be a world-class development and a safe haven for international and local yacht owners. Catchwords: sophisticated, classy, cool and still very affordable.
2. To gentrify our neighborhood. The smart money is moving in: there are more doctors, academics and overseas investors in Frankston today than ever before. Much of the ugly state housing has been sold off and today Frankston is a favoured destination for professional investors who, we hope, will someday retire here. There's much more to come. Houses frequently sell for much less than $300 000. And in North Frankston, a mere 5 min drive from the beach, it is possible to get the occasional dual occ site, complete with red brick house, for as little as $200 000+
3. To empower homeowners and make them aware of property price trends. We have worked hard to buy our homes. Unfortunately, predatory real estate sales practices have all too often misinformed home owners of the true worth of their land. Many elderly homeowners have sold out for prices well below comparable beachside suburbs in other locations. Nearsighted, commission-hungry real estate agents who do not invest locally clearly do not share our vision.
We will not allow anyone to put down our world-class gem of a neighborhood. Although we cannot recommend any sales or buyers agents, we suggest that you only deal with agents who own their own homes locally in Frankston or Seaford. It makes sense: a person who shares your vision is more likely to be on your side.
4. Home ownership is a requirement of membership. If you sell your home in Frankston or Seaford, you can't be a member of our organization (although you are welcome to lend support). And why sell unless you have to? Frankston and Seaford are underpriced relative to the Melbourne median. Buyer bewware: do your homework and never pay too much. There are bargains galore for those who are prepared to be patient.
